Scooter advice

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 11:10 AM
I know I'm opening myself up to snark, but this is a serious question so hopefully I'll get some genuine responses.

I work in eldercare, which necessitates a LOT of driving around town to visit my clients (anywhere from Ballard/Magnolia to far north Seattle to Madison Valley. I'm considering getting a scooter so I don't have to drive my car nearly so much. I do surface streets and Aurora exclusively, no highway driving.

My ideals:
- powerful enough engine to get up hills, particularly getting out of Madison Valley.
- storage space for ~2 grocery bags.
- relatively good traction on rainy days.

I'm having google-fu failure because I don't know where to start. I did check the memories but only found info on bicycles and cars. Any thoughts on how to compare brands/models, or where to shop, would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't feel like going to CVS today. It's too nice outside to waste a couple of hours driving around and I couldn't work any really good deals. We don't need more Coke, toothpaste, or toothbrushes, so I'm going to wait until I'm in the area and go then. If they're out of what I need, well, I already have 7 tubes of toothpaste so I think we're set for a while. The CVS I stopped in yesterday was out of Coke already, not that the 60 cans we already have aren't going to last us for months anyway. All they had left was Diet Coke. Nasty.

I only bought one newspaper last night, so I hope two copies of the coupons will be enough for future deals. We get a paper at home and I usually buy two or steal the coupons from the two at work if I'm working on Sunday.

Anyway, I haven't posted about Monday's CVS trip yet, so here it is.

My last receipt says my year-to-date savings are $273.30 and my spring 2008 spending is $35.70. I need to get my spreadsheet set up so that I can track all of this and put my receipts away. They're cluttering the place up.

Saturday questions

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 10:23 AM
1) What was up with the Celtic bellydancers at the U District Streetfair? What's the deal with people here crosspollinating Dead Can Dance music with indifferent bellydance moves, anyway?

2) What was that rap music show that we could hear all over the Hill last night? Where was it, in Cal Anderson Park? And was it Xtian rap, as some grumbler said it was?

Twilight III: Bride of Twilight

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 9:07 AM
The continued adventures of sparkly vampires and the emoteens who love them. (See also: Twilight; New Moon.) By the way, for anyone who was having trouble with the video the other day, [info]trailer_spot has fixed us up a direct download of the five-minute Robert Pattinson interview where he politely, respectfully, Britishfully talks about how ridiculous Edward and Bella are.

Oh, and I was psychic, as I so often am, in bringing up Wuthering Heights the other day, because it's apparently a big plot point in Eclipse. Maybe Alice will let me hang out with her now? So that's what I'll be listening to while reading this time; for the first book I put the David Cook stalker-rock cover of "Hello" on repeat ("I've been alone with you inside my mind..."), and for the second, Dido's "Here with Me," because it seemed like the angstiest thing I had on hand. Although I guess I could also go with Evanescence's "My Tourniquet," complete with the Romeo + Juliet sample of Claire Danes screaming "I LONG TO DIE!!!" Why can't you just date the werewolf next door? He's practically family! )

Finally saw Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay last night. Basically, I enjoyed the fact that John Cho and NPH are hot and that's it. Gross-out humor is just not my thing.

Crazy pairings, however, ARE my thing. I searched in vain for a specific clip of Days's Philip to illustrate the brooding sexiness of him, to no avail. Instead, I offer this behind the scenes clip with the comment of "Uh, actually Nadia, he really IS that pretty." http://youtube.com/watch?v=YvpDUGleamw

Oh. Guh. I have to edit with my favorite Philip scenes from 2007. Hot, angsty guy with a baby! Eeeee! http://youtube.com/watch?v=2knD0a7grvQ

Title: "Reaping the Benefits of Destruction" 1/1
Author: monimala
Fandom: Iron Man/Days of our Lives
Rating: R for mild sexual content.
Word Count: 900
Disclaimer: Philip belongs to NBC and Corday Productions, Tony belongs to Marvel.
Summary: Not for the first time since he took over Kiriakis Industries for his father, Philip notes that doing business is a lot like having an affair.
Notes: Yes, this is a comic book and soap opera crossover. Blame [info]angel_grace… and, okay, RDJ and JKJ, who are so sexy separately that putting them together is probably a sick bit of genius.

A middle-aged man driving a red BMW convertible...while reading a novel.

That's right, a novel. Not a map, not his Blackberry. A paperback novel. He had it propped up on the steering wheel.

It's the greatest regret of my life that I didn't get a picture, but I couldn't get my iPhone out fast enough. My second greatest regret is that I didn't ask him a question, a question I now ask you to speculate upon, [info]seattle:

What was he reading?

Thank you!

I just watched The Office season finale. I have two things to say:

1. I want to smite Andy. Hard. GRAR.
2. Go Dwight!

I believe I have become a Dwight/Angela shipper. Who knew?

And okay, one more thing: spoilers ) Maybe I will write that story.

Random thinkiness

You know, I've figured out something kind of funny about hypomania. To catch you up, particularly since the Twilight entries have brought in a lot of new people--psychiatric diagnoses are never really set in stone; a doctor might come up with something that sounds more accurate years into your treatment. I have cyclical, chemical depression; it's gotten bad at times, but it's really pretty mild compared to what a lot of people have to live through. I'm on mild doses of antidepressants--which I tend to talk about pretty openly, number one, because I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of, and number two, because I think it helps other people to go, "Oh, okay, someone else is going through the same thing, and here's what her symptoms and reactions were like."  I've got 2 good tickets to tonight's performance of the Mark Morris Dance Troupe at the Paramount that I, sadly, nay, tragically, will not be able to use.  At the Paramount at 8pm.  Let me know what you'll give me for them and go have a great time :-)

Angel: I appreciate you guys looking out for Connor all summer. It's just—he's confused. He needs time. That's all.

Fred: Right. Time, and some corporal punishment with a large heavy mallet. Not that I'm bitter. (notices books she packed are back) Oh. Damn it, Dennis! She's not coming back! I'm sorry, Angel. I-I didn't— I meant the apartment. I—

Angel: It's okay, Fred. Anyway, we've got tons of room back at the hotel. We can keep everything safe.

Fred: It's just—you count on stuff, you know? Things being where you left them. What happens if you get back and they're not there?

Angel: You go find 'em.
